Fujiwara no Hirotsune (藤原弘経)

FUJIWARA no Hirotsune (838-February 18, 883) was a government official who lived during the early Heian period. He was of the Northern House of the Fujiwara clan and was the fifth son of FUJIWARA no Nagara. His mother was FUJIWARA no Otoharu. He was the younger maternal half-brother of FUJIWARA no Mototsune and FUJIWARA no Takaiko. FUJIWARA no Kunitsuna and FUJIWARA no Totsuna were the older paternal half-brothers.
His children were Yoriharu, the Jugoinoge Ukyo no suke (Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade, Assistant Master of the Western Capital Offices); Chikami, the Jugoinojo Jibu taifu (unior Fifth Rank, Upper Grade, Senior Assistant Minister of the Ministry of the Civil Administration)

In 861, he was appointed to Sanuki koku no Gon no Jo (the third officer of regional administration in Sanuki Province). In Spring 864, he was conferred Jugoinoge (Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade) and was promoted to the Sanuki no Gon Kokushi (the Acting Provincial Governor of Sanuki Province) in the Summer. In 866, he wa appointed as a chamberlain. In 873, he was reappointed as the Sanuki no Gon no Suke (provisional vice governor of Sanuki Province). In 875, he was appointed as an assistant to the Emonfu (Headquarters of the Outer Palace Guards). Upon Emperor Yozei's succession to the throne in 877, Hirotune was conferred Jugoinojo (Junior Fifth Rank, Upper Grade). In 879, he was appointed to Kaga no kuni no Gon no kami (Provisional Governor of Kaga Province). He was ill in bed from around 882. Since Hirotsune was the maternal uncle of Emperor Yozei, he was conferred Jushiinoge (Junior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade) on February 16, 883 despite his illness. He was appointed to Echizen no kuni no Gon no kami (Provisional Governor of Echizen Province) in February 883 but passed away on February 18, 883.

According to "Nihon Sandai Jitsuroku" (Veritable Records of Three Reigns of Japan), Hirotsune had difficulties with his speech.
